The political party Adelante Andalucía has released the European Commission's response, which commits to rigorous oversight of the Adamuz incident. This supervision will continue pending the results of the investigation conducted by the Railway Accident Investigation Commission (CIAF).
The Andalusian party recalled that the tragic event, which claimed 46 lives, prompted swift action on their part. This led to a formal request to review the European regulations that the Spanish State had adopted following the Angrois accident.
Through BNG deputy Miranda Paz, Adelante Andalucía posed questions to the European Commission, denouncing governmental opacity and seeking transparency for the victims. The Commission's response was structured around three key points. Firstly, it stated that the responsibility for independently investigating railway accidents lies with national investigation bodies. It also highlighted that the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) immediately offered technical assistance.
Secondly, the Commission indicated that any potential infringement proceedings regarding the Adamuz accident would depend on the conclusion and results of the ongoing investigation. Finally, it affirmed that, concerning the application of post-Angrois regulations at the time of the Adamuz accident, it “will continue to closely monitor the situation pending the results, in order to determine whether the Adamuz accident could have as a causal factor a defect in the measures adopted under the action plan.”
For its part, Adelante Andalucía has reiterated its commitment to closely follow the case and to use all available avenues to clarify what happened and demand both political and legal accountability.
