The Granada Provincial Council, in collaboration with the Andalusian Federation of Mountain Sports, has presented the 2026 edition of its Provincial Hiking Journeys, which will visit 22 municipalities in the province between April 19 and November 29, consolidating the pet-friendly hiking modality.

The president of the Granada Provincial Council, Francis Rodríguez, along with Pablo García, territorial delegate of the Andalusian Federation of Mountain Sports, Climbing and Hiking, has unveiled the program for this initiative. The program, which includes one more municipality than the previous edition, aims to bring physical activity and contact with nature to a diverse public throughout the province.

"The expansion of the number of municipalities reflects the growing interest in a program that connects sport, nature, and territory, bringing hiking to more corners of the province and to an increasingly diverse public. We continue to advance towards an accessible physical activity model, where both those looking to get started and those who wish to enjoy the mountains in company, including their pets, are welcome, always with respect for the environment."

Francis Rodríguez · President of the Granada Provincial Council
One of the most notable novelties, which is consolidated after its success last year, is the pet-friendly hiking modality. This proposal, which will take place in towns such as Atarfe, Dehesas Viejas, Órgiva, Iznalloz, Zafarraya, and Benamaurel, promotes responsible coexistence between people and animals in natural spaces. Pet routes will be led by specialized guides and supervised by veterinary assistants, requiring dogs to have civil liability insurance and up-to-date vaccinations.

"The program allows participants to explore all regions of the province, adapting to the characteristics of each environment and offering sufficient places to facilitate broad participation. An average of 200 to 300 people per route is expected, which represents very significant participation and reflects the interest of both local residents and hikers from across the province."

Pablo García · Territorial Delegate of the Andalusian Federation of Mountain Sports, Climbing and Hiking
The journeys will offer, as in previous editions, two routes with different difficulty levels. Additionally, in some locations, a third adapted urban route will be included, facilitating the participation of people with reduced mobility or specific needs. The program includes free transportation from participating municipalities, a guide, insurance for non-federated individuals, a picnic, and commemorative gifts. The 22 municipalities that will host the journeys are: Cádiar, Pórtugos, Huéscar, Lújar, Atarfe, Dehesas Viejas, Jérez del Marquesado, Cáñar, Molvízar, Cúllar, Órgiva, La Taha, Iznalloz, Jayena, Cuevas del Campo, Freila, Alhama de Granada, Benalúa, Zújar, Colomera, Benamaurel, and Zafarraya.
