The Provincial Council of Almería organized a day of coexistence in Alhabia to celebrate International Family Day. The Constitution Square of the municipality served as the setting for a large intergenerational meeting, where numerous families, children, and associations enjoyed a diverse program.
The square was filled with activities such as traditional wooden games, giant chess and dominoes, bouncy castles, 360º video, adapted workshops, and pottery demonstrations. Entities from the Provincial Family Council also had informational stands. The day included a breakfast of churros with chocolate, music, lunch with traditional dishes, and a performance by the group ‘La duda Rock’.
The vice-president and deputy of Social Welfare, Ángel Escobar, highlighted the "familiar, close, and joyful atmosphere" and stated that "few images better represent who we are as a province than a square full of children, families, and life." He emphasized the crucial role of associative fabric, calling their work "essential" in supporting families in Almería.
The mayor of Alhabia, Luis Manuel Martínez, thanked the Council for "promoting very positive family policies" and for choosing the municipality to host this event, underscoring the "broad and diverse" concept of family in the town.
In parallel, Alhabia hosted the Plenary of the Provincial Family Council, comprising 74 entities. The annual report, activity program, subsidies, and an experience-sharing session were discussed. The family program for the year was also presented, including proposals like 'Beekeepers for a Day' and visits to the Calar Alto Observatory, the Sorbas Caves, and the archaeological site of Los Millares.
International Family Day, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993, is celebrated annually on May 15th to recognize the fundamental role of families in society.
