From Friday, April 17, until the morning of Saturday, April 18, the municipality was immersed in a festive atmosphere characterized by camaraderie, music, and the preservation of its most deeply rooted customs. Citizen participation was a fundamental pillar in the development of the events.
One of the most anticipated moments was the crowning of the festival queens, which took place on Friday at 7:30 PM in the Plaza de la Constitución. This event gathered a large number of people, eager to witness one of the most representative episodes of the program. During the ceremony, the mayor delivered an institutional greeting, emphasizing the importance of keeping traditions alive and the relevance of residents' involvement in these celebrations.
“"It is essential to preserve our traditions, and the participation of the inhabitants is key to the success of these festivities."
Friday afternoon also included an emotional tribute to the elderly, represented on this occasion by a local couple. This tribute, full of respect and esteem, recognized their trajectory and deep connection with the community's social life. Subsequently, the festival's opening speech, delivered by a local resident, added a literary and emotional dimension to the event, evoking memories and the cultural heritage of Canjáyar, with messages promoting intergenerational unity. The gala was enlivened by a well-known comedian, who brought warmth and energy, connecting with the audience.
Saturday began with a mass at 11:30 AM, which saw a large attendance of faithful. After the Eucharist, a solemn procession of the Holy Cross took place, winding through the town's streets until it reached the hermitage of Cerro de San Blas. This ritual, of profound symbolism, culminated with the blessing of the Alpujarran fields, reflecting the close relationship between agricultural history, faith, and the region's territory.
Saturday morning was experienced in an atmosphere of devotion, camaraderie, and pride in traditions, with the active collaboration of residents of all generations. Thus, Canjáyar has begun its festivities with a blend of culture, music, emotions, and traditions, reaffirming the essence of celebrations that continue to be a benchmark in the Alpujarra Almeriense.
