The operation, named Calvario, resulted in the arrest of eight foreign nationals of Moroccan origin and one facilitator, all under investigation for alleged document forgery. The false documents placed the individuals at a property on Calvario street in Tabernas (Almería).
The investigation began in December 2025 upon detecting irregularities in residency certificates submitted to the Almería Immigration Office. Officers confirmed that the documents did not match official records and that the investigated individuals had never resided at the indicated property.
Checks at the property confirmed that a Spanish family, unrelated to the scheme, had been living there for approximately forty years. The forged certificates were allegedly used for residency applications, renewal of residence permits, or family reunification procedures.
One of the involved individuals stated they paid 700 euros to an employee of a food establishment in Pueblo Blanco (Níjar) for a residency certificate for a Tabernas address, a town they claimed never to have visited. Subsequent investigations led to the identification and arrest of the alleged facilitator.
The operation unfolded in three phases, culminating in the arrest of the individual accused of supplying the forged certificates. The proceedings have been forwarded to the Investigating Section of the Court of Instance in Almería, and all detainees have been released on bail, required to appear before judicial authorities when summoned.
