The royal visit, set for April 16, is part of the Tactical Experimentation Campaign number 3. This initiative, organized by the Army's Future Force Center, will take place between April 7 and 17, as confirmed by Defense sources to Europa Press.
This is not the first time the monarch has shown interest in these advancements. In May 2021, Felipe VI previously attended exercises by the Experimental Brigade, part of the Force 35 project, at the 'Álvarez Sotomayor' Maneuver and Firing Range. On that occasion, he witnessed a demonstration by the Experimental Combat Group and other key programs, such as the 8x8 'Dragón' wheeled combat vehicle, as reported by 'Diario de Almería'.
During the current campaign, La Legión will showcase differential capabilities provided by national industry. This demonstration, coordinated by the Army's Future Force Center and Briex, will include a media day on April 14.
This preliminary day will feature a tour through various tactical scenarios, demonstrating the potential application of technologies from different companies. Highlighted innovations include advancements in command posts and battlefield sensorization, as well as unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for cargo, reconnaissance, intelligence, and security (ISR). First-person view (FPV) models and loitering munitions will also be shown, alongside unmanned ground vehicles (UGV) with armed, logistical support, and multipurpose functions, and counter-UAS systems, both aerial and those used by ground personnel.
The Tactical Experimentation Campaign serves as the primary framework for the practical execution of experimentation activities linked to the Army's transformation process. The collaboration of personnel from the Future Force Center, the 'Rey Alfonso XIII' II Brigade of La Legión, multidisciplinary teams from the Army, the Training and Doctrine Command, with support from the National Institute of Aerospace Technology, as well as industry companies and various universities, makes this event a crucial workspace for evaluating the utility, integration, and maturity of new capabilities aimed at modernizing the Force.
