Firefighting efforts continued throughout the night in the Sierra de Gádor. Despite the deployment of resources, weather conditions, characterized by strong wind gusts and the complex terrain, have so far prevented the stabilization of the fire, which marks the first major forest blaze of the season in the province.
As of Friday morning, the operation includes seven groups of forest firefighters, an operations technician, an environmental agent, a fire engine, and the Forest Fire Medical Unit (UMIF). This team remains on high alert to halt the spread of the flames across the various active fronts.
The fire began on Thursday at 11:05 AM. Although it was initially located in the municipality of Alhama de Almería, authorities later confirmed that the affected area belongs to the capital of Almería. During the previous day, the deployment included aerial assets such as semi-heavy helicopters and ground-loading aircraft to attempt to contain the spread.
