The detainee, of Venezuelan origin and residing in Málaga, was intercepted as he attempted to leave Spain on a flight bound for Caracas. Officers also arrested the partner of the main suspect for her possible involvement in the assault, although she is not accused of carrying out the physical aggression.
The events took place on June 6th in a rural area of difficult access in the province of Almería. The suspect allegedly accessed the property with a rental vehicle, threatened the couple with a simulated firearm, and brutally beat them, demanding their personal belongings.
The assault was notable for its extreme violence. The assailant used a glass bottle and blunt objects to strike the man, leaving him unconscious. The woman also received blows when she tried to protect her husband and call for help, as the aggressor destroyed the victims' mobile phones.
As a result of the beating, the man suffered an open fracture and displacement of his left humerus, along with other injuries. His wife also required medical attention for bruises and a head wound. The man's serious injuries necessitated his transfer to Switzerland via a medicalized aircraft.
During the robbery, the alleged perpetrator stole a Rolex watch, cash, bank cards, personal documents, mobile phones, jewelry, and the property's keys. He subsequently searched parts of the house for more valuables.
The investigation determined that the suspect, with numerous prior police records for violent crimes, had shown interest in one of the victim's watches days before the assault. Authorities located him on June 10th at Madrid's airport as he was about to board with his partner and children.
During the search of his belongings, the stolen Rolex was recovered, along with three other high-end watches, two mobile phones, and gold jewelry of illicit origin currently under investigation. The detainee has been remanded in provisional prison.
