The Cathedral of Seville has completed the cleaning and rehabilitation of its rainwater collection network, an infrastructure dating back several centuries, to ensure its proper functioning without altering the building's valuable heritage.

The intervention, carried out by the company Castillo Nevado, specialists in maintaining sanitation systems in historical buildings, focused on the Patio de los Naranjos. The main objective was to restore the functionality of the stoneware pipes, extending their lifespan through techniques that respect the integrity of the edifice.
The work began with manual cleaning of the collection grates and continued with the use of a specialized high-pressure truck to remove accumulated sediment and blockages over time. Subsequently, a cleaning nozzle traversed the entire pipe system to ensure a thorough cleaning.
The final phase included an inspection with a robotic camera, a technology that allows for precise assessment of the interior condition of the pipes and planning of future rehabilitation actions without the need for invasive works. This methodology is crucial for the conservation of buildings of extraordinary historical value.
Javier Ávalos, head of Castillo Nevado's Industrial Sewerage department, highlighted the importance of these interventions: "Although the pipes are hundreds of years old, today there are technical solutions that allow us to rehabilitate them and keep them in perfect working order, always respecting the heritage value of the building."
The company thus reaffirms its commitment to the conservation of historical heritage, offering solutions that ensure the operability of centuries-old infrastructure. The goal is to make "the sewage system of these buildings function like a Swiss watch and not be an obstacle that could overshadow their essence or historical value," Ávalos concluded.
