The football scene in Almería's División de Honor is experiencing a notable change with the addition of a well-known coach to the Cuevas bench. This move comes after the coach concluded his second spell at the helm of Poli Almería, a team he managed during the second half of the last campaign.
News of his departure from the capital city club was made public last Saturday, despite efforts to renew his contract. Just a few days later, this Monday, his arrival at Cuevas was made official. The team will play its third season in the División de Honor at the Andrés Soler Guerrero stadium.
Cuevas, which debuted in this category (the sixth tier of Spanish football) in the 2024-25 season after being promoted from Primera Andaluza, has managed to maintain its position for the past two seasons. In the most recent season, the team finished seventh in Group II, narrowly missing out on the play-offs and securing its participation in the preliminary phase of the Copa Andalucía, which grants two spots for the preliminary round of the Copa del Rey.
The new coach returned to Poli Almería last Christmas, when the team was in a delicate situation, flirting with relegation spots. Under his leadership, the team managed to turn the situation around, finishing the season in eighth position after securing five wins and six draws, with only three losses.
