The play Campeones 2, subtitled if Lorca were to raise his head, captivated the audience at the Maestro Padilla Auditorium last Saturday evening. This theatrical proposal, part of the Almería City Council's Culture Department's spring program and locally produced by Kuver Producciones, expands the universe of the film Campeones, known for its realistic and non-compassionate approach to disability.
Led by El Langui and featuring a cast that includes actors from the original films such as Gloria Ramos, Claudia Fesser, Alberto Nieto, Emilio Gavira, and Luis Mottola, the production uses metatheater as its central theme. The plot follows a protagonist seeking inspiration from her disabled cousin for a role, while simultaneously rehearsing an adaptation of Lorca's The House of Bernarda Alba.
“"The ability to laugh at oneself, the emotion in the face of disillusionment, the dilemmas about what is right and moral and what is not, are universal emotions that every human being must face throughout their life, regardless of their abilities."
The play emphasizes the absence of condescension and the elevation of human dignity, core values of the Campeones franchise. Through simple yet humorous situations and a set design incorporating cinematic elements, the production highlights the importance of kindness over excessive ambition.
The co-production is supported by Javier Fesser and Luis Manso, with production by Luis Sancho and script by Pedro Lendínez, ensuring the continuation of the story's original spirit.
