The new entrance arch for the Almería Fair, which will welcome thousands of attendees between August 21st and 29th, is now fully assembled. This structure, paying homage to the House of Butterflies, stands as the most imposing in the celebration's history, reaching 27.5 meters in height and 3.5 meters in width, with an implantation exceeding 20 meters. It weighs approximately 68 tons and is composed of 117 meticulously decorated modules on all its faces, ensuring a well-crafted appearance from any point within the fairgrounds.
One of the most significant novelties is its relocation. The arch moves from its previous position at the intermediate gate to the main avenue and the boulevard connecting to the stadium's parking area. This strategic change aims to enhance its presence and create a greater visual impact for those entering the fairgrounds and circulating nearby.
The monumental structure is built using rolled steel angular profiles, clad with particleboard and various decorative finishes, including integrated lighting. The entire assembly rests on a concrete slab and is stabilized by a system of tensioned steel cables and auxiliary masts to ensure its resistance against wind action.
Assembly was carried out using a modular system of bolted mechanical joints, employing mobile cranes and lifting platforms. The arch itself incorporates internal walkways, stairs, and access doors to facilitate both assembly and subsequent maintenance tasks.
This new image for the Recinto Ferial replaces the previous arch, inspired by the Central Market and inaugurated in 2017. The currently installed structure is designed to remain in place for at least the next five editions of the festivities. The total investment for this renovation amounts to 929,945.50 euros, aiming to establish the arch as one of the most recognizable architectural elements of the Almería Fair.
With the assembly now complete, the city faces the final stretch of preparations for nine days of celebrations. The Fair Arch will be one of the first events in the extensive festive program. Its lighting, along with the extraordinary illumination, will take place on Friday, August 21st, followed by the opening speech delivered by Diego Ferrón, a cultural promoter and Almería-based entrepreneur.
