The province of Almería is preparing for the start of the 2026-2027 school year, which will host over 70,000 students and introduce free education for 1 and 2-year-olds.

The school calendar in the province of Almería will commence in stages. Students aged 0 to 3 in nursery schools will be the first to return on September 3rd. Subsequently, on September 10th, it will be the turn for Infant, Primary, and Special Education, while students in ESO, Bachillerato, and Vocational Training will resume classes on September 15th. Higher artistic education and official language schools will begin their activities on September 21st.
One of the most significant novelties for this academic year is the elimination of the socio-educational schedule fee for children aged 1 and 2. This measure aims to reduce economic barriers and facilitate access to early education. Families will only be responsible for complementary services such as lunch, morning, or afternoon care, which will offer income-based discounts.
The Ministry of Educational Development has offered a total of 13,709 places for the first cycle of Early Childhood Education (0-3 years) in Almería. At the Andalusian level, over 667,000 students are expected to enroll, with more than 70,000 corresponding to the province of Almería.
The 2026-2027 academic year will guarantee a minimum of 181 school days for Early Childhood, Primary, and Special Education, and 178 days for Secondary Education, Bachillerato, Vocational Training, Languages, Artistic Education, and Adult Education. The calendar includes several long weekends and holidays, such as October 12th (National Day), November 2nd (All Saints' Day), December 7th and 8th (Constitution Day and Immaculate Conception), Christmas holidays from December 23rd to January 6th, the Andalusia long weekend from February 26th to March 1st, Easter holidays from March 22nd to 29th, and May 1st (Labour Day).
Municipalities have the authority to establish up to three additional non-teaching days for local celebrations. The academic year will conclude on May 24th for the second year of Bachillerato and on June 22nd for all other educational levels.
