Almería City Council has approved the tender for comprehensive improvements to the Civil War Shelters, with an investment of 382,800 euros.

Almería City Council has greenlit the tender process for the adaptation and comprehensive improvement of the Civil War Spanish Shelters. The project, budgeted at a base of 382,800.04 euros (VAT included) and with a four-month execution period, aims to enhance the safety and modernize this heritage and tourist site.
Driven collaboratively by the Urban Planning and Tourism departments, the initiative continues the joint work undertaken during the remodeling of the Paseo de Almería. The primary objective is to ensure the proper public use of the shelters, guaranteeing visitor safety and improving the preservation of this historical complex.
A key focus of the intervention is enhancing evacuation conditions. New emergency routes will be established, including an evacuation path integrated into the Paseo de Almería's redevelopment via Plaza del Educador. Additionally, the kiosks in Plaza Marqués de Heredia and Urrutia will be designated as emergency exits.
The project also encompasses technical upgrades to align the site with current regulations. Ventilation, lighting, fire protection, communication, emergency public address systems, and Wi-Fi networks will undergo comprehensive renovation, alongside various repairs and improvements within the museum route.

"The approval of this tender represents a decisive step forward in the conservation and enhancement of one of Almería's most emblematic heritage sites."

Eloísa Cabrera · Councillor for Urban Planning, Housing, and Major Festivals

"This action demonstrates the coordination between both municipal areas to continue improving one of the city's main tourist resources, incorporating more modern facilities and reinforcing the safety of a space that receives thousands of visitors each year."

Joaquín Pérez de la Blanca · Councillor for Tourism, Communications, and City Promotion
With the tender process initiated, the aim is to solidify the Shelters' position as a leading cultural and tourist attraction in the capital, improving their usability, conservation, accessibility, and safety to provide a high-quality experience.
