The Culture, Education, and Traditions Department of the Almería City Council has published the results of the May Crosses competition, a traditional festival celebrated in the city from April 23 to May 2. The first prizes, each worth 900 euros, were awarded to the San Urbano Parents' Association from the CEIP San Indalecio de La Cañada, the La Torre Neighborhood Association, and the Hermandad del Silencio.
In modality A, for parents' or students' associations from educational centers, the second prize went to the AMPA Andalusí from IES Al-Andalus. In modality B, which includes associations, cultural entities, and other collectives, the recognition was given to the Paraje Guillén Neighborhood Association. Finally, in category C, for brotherhoods and confraternities, the second prize was awarded to the Hermandad del Prendimiento. Each of these second prizes is endowed with 550 euros.
Additionally, in the Mayas category, which covers cultural associations and entities, the sole prize of 430 euros was granted to the Cofradía de Estudiantes. The jury also awarded two commendations of 130 euros to AMPA Peques del Alborán and AMPA Acordes, acknowledging their originality in decoration and the educational community's involvement in promoting this tradition.
“"The May Crosses are a tradition around which neighbors, schools, and brotherhoods and confraternities gather, lovingly and artistically crafting the Cross in different neighborhoods and in the city center, fostering coexistence."
As a new feature this year, the six outdoor bars located at the Mirador de la Rambla have been enhanced with an entrance portico, awnings for sun protection, and very colorful floral decoration, aiming for an attractive visual impact for visitors.
