“"The idea is that any Almerian, any visitor, anyone can walk from Puerta Purchena to the port of Almería, practically touching the water via a fully pedestrian route. I believe that is a luxury the city will have, and it's what we've been working towards."

The Almería City Council, through the Councilor for Urban Planning, Housing, and Major Festivities, Eloísa Cabrera, has confirmed that procedures are being finalized to tender the works that will extend the pedestrian promenade from Plaza Manuel Pérez to the Port of Almería, aiming for completion before the end of 2026.
This initiative seeks to create an uninterrupted pedestrian connection from Puerta Purchena to the Port of Almería, allowing both residents and visitors direct access to the sea. This action complements previous improvements made to the Paseo de Almería, ensuring continuity in the urban infrastructure.
According to Cabrera, the project is currently under review by the legal and intervention services of the City Council, a necessary step before its imminent tender. The councilor emphasized the intention to maintain work fluidity, linking ongoing projects in the lower part of the Paseo with this new phase on Avenida Reina Regente.
The plan for Avenida Reina Regente involves removing a traffic lane to widen sidewalks, thereby facilitating the direct pedestrian connection to the port. Although the works may cause temporary inconveniences, the municipal administration is confident that these transformations will represent a significant advancement for the city, especially when complemented by future interventions such as those planned for Nicolás Salmerón Park and the second phase of the port-city project or the undergrounding of infrastructure.
