This festival, considered one of the most emblematic cultural events in the province, aims to recover and preserve the intellectual and artistic legacy of Federico García Lorca and his circle in Granada. It pays tribute to the historic puppet show promoted by Lorca, Manuel de Falla, and Hermenegildo Lanz, keeping alive the spirit of the literary gatherings that marked the cultural life of the era.
The program will include proposals for family, school, and general audiences, featuring national and international companies of recognized prestige. The Diputación de Granada, through the Lorca Patronage, fully manages this program with the aim of highlighting traditional hand puppets and the figure of Cristobica as a symbol of Granada's popular culture.
The festival will kick off on Saturday, May 9, at the Federico García Lorca House Museum in Valderrubio with the show Circus by Jordi Bertrán's company. On the same day, the Andalusian company La Maquiné will present Parada. El circo de los valientes. The main program will continue on Saturday, May 23, with Blancanieves by La Chana and Las maravillas de Oriente by Eudald Ferré, concluding on Sunday, May 24, with repeat performances of these works.
In addition to the main performances, the festival will offer extensions in other municipalities. On Tuesday, May 12, the Municipal Theater of Fuente Vaqueros will host the school performance of ¡Que viene el lobo! by the Mexican company Mondomeraki, which will also be shown on Wednesday, May 13, in Alfacar. On Friday, May 15, the Martín Recuerda Municipal Theater in Pinos Puente will be the setting for Pasos largos by the Uruguayan company Coriolis.
Throughout the festival, from May 9 to 24, the exhibition 40 años de títeres by the Afinal company will be open at the Federico García Lorca House-Museum, offering a journey through their career. The program is complemented by workshops, professional meetings, and the educational project 'Mimbres y Sombras'. All activities will be free, but prior reservation will be required due to limited capacity.
