The Insurance Compensation Consortium (CCS) has registered 12,531 claims for material damages following earthquakes in the Granada Metropolitan Area, with preliminary estimates exceeding 35 million euros.

Recent seismic activity in the Granada Metropolitan Area has led to a significant increase in compensation claims. As of 8:00 AM this Friday, the CCS had accumulated 12,531 requests, with a preliminary damage estimate surpassing 35 million euros.
The data reveals a rapid rise in the number of cases. Between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM on Wednesday, August 19th, the consortium received 2,312 applications, averaging one claim every ten seconds. In less than two days, this figure nearly doubled, reaching 12,531 compensation requests by early August 21st, according to the College of Insurance Mediators.
Geographical details of the damage indicate that 11,719 claims are for homes and property owner communities, representing over 93% of the total. These are supplemented by 609 claims for shops and warehouses, 152 for offices, 34 for industrial risks, and 17 for motor vehicles.
The extent of the damage spans 74 municipalities in the province of Granada, along with ten in Málaga and nine in Jaén. Granada capital has the highest number of claims with 6,086, followed by Ogíjares (1,251), Armilla (1,192), Churriana de la Vega (688), Las Gabias (503), and La Zubia (501). Other municipalities like Vegas del Genil, Gójar, Alhendín, Maracena, Huétor Vega, Cájar, Cúllar Vega, and Otura have over a hundred requests each.
The Consortium warns that the initial estimate of 35 million euros will be updated as damage assessments progress. Affected individuals are reminded that they can submit claims even if more than seven days have passed since the damage occurred, as the consortium will process all received requests. Submissions can be made directly or through an insurance entity, agent, or broker. The phone number 900222665 and the consortium's website remain available.
The College of Insurance Mediators of Granada emphasizes that the consortium does not compensate for damages solely because they were caused by an earthquake. Seismic damages are covered by the Extraordinary Risks Insurance, but compensation requires that the affected persons or property were insured under an active policy at the time of the damage.
For loss of profits, this coverage must be included in the policy and result from direct damage to the insured property. It is recommended to thoroughly document damages with photographs and videos before removing damaged items or undertaking repairs. Keeping remnants of damaged goods for the assessor is important, as are invoices for urgent repairs. The active insurance policy and related estimates/invoices should also be readily available.
Beyond material damages, the series of earthquakes is causing concern and anxiety. The Official College of Psychology of Eastern Andalusia (Copao), in collaboration with the 112 Emergency Agency, maintains the psychological support hotline 900102513 for those affected by the Granada earthquakes.
