The Granada towns of Santa Fe, Alhendín, and Montefrío have emerged as the winners of Ecovidrio's 'Mapamundi Challenge', an initiative that rewards citizen commitment to glass container recycling.
As prizes, the three municipalities will receive glass bins decorated with the campaign's imagery, adapted to each town, along with five personalized mini-bins. The provincial deputy for Procurement, Water, Agrarian Promotion, and Environment, Antonio Mancilla, presided over the award ceremony for this initiative, which aims to foster citizen participation in glass recycling among the 20 participating municipalities.
In addition to the collective award, Santa Fe received a special environmental action for achieving the highest overall score. Deputy Mancilla, accompanied by Ecovidrio's zone manager, Jesús Gutiérrez, and municipal representatives, emphasized the collaboration between administrations, entities, and citizens in achieving positive environmental outcomes.
“
"This campaign has shown that when administrations, entities, and citizens work hand in hand, it is possible to achieve very positive results for the environment."
“
"The 'Mapamundi Challenge' has been much more than a competition between municipalities; it has been an opportunity to reinforce environmental awareness and to remember that every individual gesture counts in building a more sustainable province."
“
"With this initiative, we set a dual objective: to increase glass recycling figures and to make the residents of our municipalities feel like protagonists of that commitment. Thanks to the collective effort, the campaign has had a significant presence in the streets and has managed to involve hundreds of people in a common cause. I want to congratulate Santa Fe, Alhendín, and Montefrío for the work done and for becoming an example of participation and environmental responsibility for the entire province."
The challenge took place between November 15, 2025, and January 15, 2026, aiming to surpass the glass recycling rate of the participating localities compared to the same period the previous year. Scoring criteria included the increase in kilograms of recycled glass, the dissemination of campaign graphics, and the activities promoted by the municipalities to raise awareness of the initiative.
