The socialist municipal group has expressed its concern regarding the management of the service, which will now be handled by the company Claros SCA, as recently informed by the Vegas del Genil City Council to users. This measure, promoted by Mayor Mari Carmen Ros and her government team, has been described as lacking the necessary transparency and dialogue.
Socialists have pointed out that the decision directly impacts both the individuals receiving the service and the workers, many of whom have over two decades of experience in caring for the elderly and dependent. The lack of prior information to the auxiliaries before the announcement on April 8 has been a key point of their criticism.
There is a lack of staff, unqualified personnel have been hired, and the workforce has working conditions that have caused stressful situations.
From the PSOE of Vegas del Genil, a “progressive deterioration” of the home care service over the last year has been reported, citing staff shortages and the hiring of unqualified personnel, which has led to stress among the workforce. They suggest that this deterioration might have been used as a justification for the privatization.
The political group has also voiced its apprehension about the potential repercussions on workers' employment conditions, warning of “significant salary reductions,” which could decrease from approximately 1,300 euros monthly to about 800 euros, while maintaining the same working hours. Furthermore, they question whether the privatization will genuinely result in savings for the City Council, as it would involve reassigning several municipal workers to positions whose necessity has not been publicly justified.
Finally, the socialists have warned about the possible halt or elimination of a public employment offer and selective processes linked to the home care service, which would affect residents preparing for these job positions. Therefore, they urge the local PP government to provide “clear explanations” and guarantee the quality of the service, emphasizing that the care of the elderly and dependent must be a priority.
