The National Geographic Institute has confirmed a succession of earthquakes affecting various municipalities in the metropolitan area. The first event, with a magnitude of 4.7, was initially located in Alhendín. Subsequently, other significant movements were recorded in Churriana de la Vega and Las Gabias, in addition to lower-intensity aftershocks in Padul, Alhendín, and Gójar.
Seismic activity continued throughout the morning, highlighting a new 4.2 magnitude earthquake centered in Alhendín. The shallow depth of the epicenters, in some cases at 0 kilometers, contributed to the tremors being felt more intensely by the population.
As a precautionary measure, evacuations were carried out in key infrastructure such as the Alhambra monumental complex and the Nevada Shopping Center. Likewise, the Granada Provincial Council proceeded to temporarily close administrative buildings, museums, and sports facilities to ensure citizen safety against potential aftershocks.
Landslides have been reported in urban areas, including neighborhoods of the capital such as Zaidín and the central Alhamar street. The effects of these tremors have extended beyond provincial borders, also being felt in parts of Málaga province.
