The Monachil City Council has given final approval to the Ordinance Regulating the Aesthetics of the Old Town, a regulation designed to safeguard the traditional image of this area of great heritage and tourist value.
The regulation, published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Granada, establishes criteria for new constructions, renovations, and urban development projects. It aims to conserve the architectural and landscape character, requiring white facades, red Arabic tile roofs, and regulating exterior carpentry, awnings, and plinths for a homogeneous image.
The ordinance prohibits graffiti on walls and fixed advertising through signs. Additionally, new wiring installations must be underground to avoid visual impact. A notable measure is the requirement to install traditional white ceramic street signs with blue lettering on building corners to identify streets, reinforcing the Old Town's visual identity.
Technical elements such as chimneys, ventilation systems, or smoke outlets must be integrated as discreetly as possible into the buildings. The placement of solar panels will also be regulated to minimize their aesthetic impact on the urban landscape.

Mayor José Morales emphasized that the goal is to balance the municipality's growth with the preservation of its identity and tourist appeal. The regulation will apply to future constructions and renovations, although owners of existing properties are encouraged to adapt progressively.
