These structures aim to preserve the food intended for community cats, helping to keep feeding stations clean and secure. The initiative is part of the municipal commitment to protecting these animals and complying with the Animal Welfare Law.
Currently, over 70% of the felines belonging to the registered colonies in the municipality are sterilized and identified through the CER method (Capture, Sterilization, and Return). Maracena has more than 30 officially registered feline colonies.
Approximately 25 individuals collaborate altruistically in the care and feeding of these animals. The City Council has highlighted the significant work of the association 'Happy Cat Spain Rescue' in managing the colonies and applying the CER method.
The City Council has reminded the public that any tampering with the shelters, removal of food, or damage to these feeding points can endanger the animals' health. Such actions may result in fines ranging from 500 to 10,000 euros.
