Every morning, Peligros wakes up to find furniture, mattresses, tires, and all sorts of abandoned belongings in streets and vacant lots. This situation, which does not represent the majority of residents, forces the City Council to allocate considerable resources to maintain the municipality in its usual state.
The Services and Maintenance department dedicates four workers daily to the removal of this waste and to extraordinary cleanups. Between personnel costs and material resources, this issue amounts to an annual expense of approximately 300,000 euros. This sum, funded by the citizens, could be allocated to improving parks, streets, painting, power washing, or minor repairs that would benefit all residents.
The City Council reminds the public that this problem has a solution and offers a free collection service for belongings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, requiring a prior call to arrange pickup. Furthermore, the opening hours of the Punto Limpio (Waste Disposal Center) have been extended, remaining open every day of the year, including Sundays and holidays, to facilitate the responsible disposal of waste.
Another concerning issue is the failure to remove dog waste, the non-compliance of which carries a fine of 120 euros and requires municipal staff to undertake tasks that could be avoided.
The council emphasizes that caring for Peligros is a shared responsibility. Civility not only improves the municipality's image but also allows for better utilization of public resources. A clean town depends on both those who clean it and those who choose not to litter.
The City Council thanks the vast majority of residents who act responsibly, use municipal services, and care for common spaces, contributing to Peligros remaining a town to be proud of.
