The expansion works for the Granada Metro are entering their final phase in the municipality of Las Gabias, with most of the infrastructure already executed and the affected section fully urbanized. Signaling installation is the last pending step.
A drone video, shared by the acting Minister of Development, Territorial Planning, and Housing, Rocío Díaz, showcases the route's progress between October 2024 and May of this year. The footage documents the Metro's entry into Gabia Grande up to the terminal stop, which has been transformed into a park with green areas and urban furniture.
The section between the La Gloria and Los Chopos stops, an area with potential for urban development, has also undergone significant improvements. The completion of the tracks and the remodeling of Vial de Machucón, which now includes a cycle lane, wider sidewalks, and rest areas, are visible.
Additionally, the stretch running parallel to the Dílar River and the park-and-ride facility at La Gloria stop, located near the border with Churriana de la Vega, can be seen. This area features asphalted parking, planted trees, a finished stop, and a viewpoint plaza overlooking the Vega de Granada.
The Southern Extension of the Granada Metro, co-financed with European Next Generation funds, covers 4.6 kilometers and includes seven stops distributed among the municipalities of Armilla, Churriana de la Vega, and Las Gabias. The civil works are nearly complete in their two sections.
