The 2026 World Cup final, pitting Spain against Argentina at the MetLife Stadium in New York, is eagerly anticipated in Granada and its province. Thousands of citizens will follow the match, kicking off at 9:00 PM, from homes, bars, and giant screens set up across numerous municipalities.
Municipal councils across the province have organized collective viewing points. It would be easier to list the places where the match will not be broadcast publicly than those where it will. These initiatives will include security measures and a ban on fireworks to ensure safety during potential celebrations.
In the capital city, two giant screens will be installed on the esplanade of the Palacio de Congresos, doubling the capacity compared to previous matches. The event, starting at 7:00 PM, will prohibit flares, rockets, firecrackers, alcohol consumption, and entry with glass containers. Nearly a hundred officers from the Local Police and National Police will ensure security, and measures will be taken to prevent fountains from being used for bathing.
The Granada Metro will extend its operating hours until 12:00 AM to facilitate fan travel. In the Metropolitan Area, municipalities such as Armilla, Churriana de la Vega, Las Gabias, Cúllar Vega, Santa Fe, Pulianas, Pinos Puente, Peligros, Alfacar, Huétor Vega, Monachil, La Zubia, Ogíjares, and Cájar, among others, will broadcast the match.
Albolote will close traffic in the Plaza de España, which will host a Fan Zone with a giant screen. Other municipalities like Alhendín, Atarfe, and Dúrcal will offer entertainment with DJs and bar services. In Maracena, waste collection times have been adjusted to avoid interference with celebrations, asking residents to deposit waste between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
On the Costa Tropical, towns such as Motril, Torrenueva Costa, La Mamola, Albuñol, and La Rábita will also join the celebration. In Salobreña, exceptional authorizations have been granted for bar and restaurant terraces to install audiovisual equipment, while in Calahonda the giant screen will be set up at the football field.
The western part of Granada will also buzz with screens in Loja, Huétor Tájar, and Montefrío, and parties are planned in Baza and Alhama de Granada. It is recommended to consult the official channels of each town hall for detailed information on broadcast locations.
