The project, declared of community interest in 2010, will collect wastewater from the municipalities of Churriana de la Vega, Las Gabias, and the western areas of Otura and Alhendín, centralizing them in the provincial capital. It is expected to benefit a maximum future population of 214,812 inhabitants.
The works involved the construction of over 22 kilometers of collectors across 51 sections, requiring the execution of 480 wells and 112 inspection chambers. Additionally, nine stormwater overflows have been installed, and 18.4 kilometers of pavement have been replaced.
This project continues a previous initiative completed by the Regional Government of Andalusia in 2023, which consolidated wastewater from Cúllar Vega and Vegas del Genil for treatment at the same Los Vados WWTP. That intervention had an investment of 4.1 million euros and addressed a long-standing demand from 12,000 residents in the metropolitan area.

Furthermore, the Governing Council has also been informed about the status of Andalusian reservoirs. As of June 24, they hold 9,967 cubic hectometers (hm3), representing 83.59% of total capacity. This marks a decrease of 110 hm3 (-0.92%) over the past week. Compared to the same week last year, stored resources are 3,079 hm3 higher (6,888 hm3, or 57.77%). In relation to the average of the last ten years, there is an increase of 4,157 hm3 (the average being 5,810 hm3, or 48.73%).
In the Guadalquivir hydrographic basin, storage reaches 6,706 hm3 (83.44% of its capacity), with a weekly decrease of 84 hm3 (-1.05%). Compared to 2025, there are 2,127 hm3 more stored (4,579 hm3 at that time). Against the ten-year average (3,758 hm3, 46.76%), there are 2,948 hm3 more.
The Andalusian Mediterranean Basins hold 882 hm3 (77.10% of their total capacity of 1,144 hm3). Last week saw a decrease of 7 hm3 (-0.61%). Compared to the same dates in 2025, there are 224 hm3 more (658 hm3 then, 57.52%). The ten-year average (580 hm3, 50.70%) is exceeded by 302 hm3.
