This new cyclo-pedestrian route, extending around the Armilla Air Base, completes a sports and family circuit of over 8.5 kilometers in the metropolitan area of Granada. The project aims to promote sports and improve cycling and pedestrian mobility in the area, joining existing sections in Armilla, Ogíjares, and Churriana de la Vega.
During the inauguration ceremony, Francis Rodríguez highlighted that this action fulfills a mandate commitment and represents a dedication to improving quality of life and connectivity between municipalities. "It is a commitment to improve the quality of life in our province and to create spaces that respond to the needs of the residents of these municipalities, which are now better connected," he stated.
“"We have managed to make a reality of a proposal we put forward at the beginning of our term, which reflects that we fulfill our commitments and are advancing one of the strategic projects that the Provincial Council had marked."
The works included the creation of sports areas and rest zones, as well as the installation of 98 LED luminaires with motion detection. The bike lane features a flexible surface, while the pedestrian walkway is paved with alpañata and red earth from the Alhambra, aiming for respectful integration with the environment. The planning was coordinated with military commanders to ensure the safety of the air base.
The event was also attended by the Deputy of Presidency, María Vera; the mayor of Ogíjares, Estefano Polo; the mayoress of Las Gabias, María Merinda Sádaba; the mayor of Alhendín, Jorge Sánchez; council members from Armilla; the Deputy Delegate for Defense in Granada, Federico González-Vico Santiago, and the colonel of the Armilla Air Base, Joaquín Aguirre.
