This significant financial injection, described as "historic" by the council, comes from the General State Administration and is part of the Aid Line for the Improvement and Renovation of Pipelines and Networks for Prevention Against the Effects of Storms. The amount received is the largest in the municipality's history, positioning it among those that have received the most funding in this competitive national call.
The funds will be used to comprehensively repair and modernize municipal infrastructure, with a primary focus on flood prevention and the renovation of main urban thoroughfares. Securing this aid was made possible by the "outstanding effort and technical efficiency" of the local Public Works and Treasury departments, who worked to meet the "strict and tight" deadlines of the call.
Mayor Jorge Sánchez expressed his "immense pride in this unprecedented achievement," highlighting that the external contribution is equivalent to the municipality's entire annual budget and demonstrates the "management capacity and ambition" of the governing team. He noted that this will allow for vital projects to be undertaken without compromising ordinary municipal resources.
Councilor for Treasury, Eduardo Pérez, emphasized the "enormous economic boost" represented by receiving over 6.5 million euros with 100% financing. He stressed that the municipality's own resources can now be allocated to other resident needs and the improvement of public services.
The funding, managed through the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, will be exclusively dedicated to optimizing the municipality's hydraulic infrastructure for sanitation, supply, and rainwater collection. The project also includes the renewal of asphalt, sidewalks, and public trees, with a notable intervention planned for Avenida Andalucía.
