The Guardia Civil Command in Granada has identified the 'affectionate hug' as a primary concern following recent arrests in Chauchina. This criminal method particularly targets the elderly and vulnerable.
Three individuals were recently apprehended in the town, suspected of being part of a gang involved in these types of robberies. The arrests of two women and one man occurred last Thursday, following incidents over recent weeks.
The 'affectionate hug' technique involves perpetrators, often working in pairs or groups, approaching victims with feigned friendliness or by asking for information. They then exploit the physical proximity to steal jewelry and personal belongings through distraction or force, fleeing the scene quickly.
The Granada Command is continuously working to investigate and prosecute these crimes while also focusing on prevention through the Plan Mayor Seguridad (Senior Safety Plan). This initiative aims to inform and educate seniors on effective self-protection measures against common offenses.
The public is advised to exercise extreme caution regarding unexpected approaches from strangers, especially if they attempt to engage in conversation at close range or initiate physical contact. Any suspicious situation should be immediately reported to the emergency number 062.
