This provisional figure, which could be confirmed by the end of the month, exceeds previous highest records for a June in the aforementioned station by three or four tenths of a degree. The prior historical maximums stood at 40.3 degrees, reached on June 13 and 14, 2022.
The Aemet spokesperson for Andalusia, Jesús Riesco, indicated that the record was broken consecutively, as the previous day, Tuesday, June 22, registered 40.6 degrees.
“"Probably this past June 23, 2026, may have been the warmest June month on the Peninsula since grid data has been available, at least since 1961."
These figures are part of an intense heatwave that, according to forecasts, was expected to end that same Thursday. Riesco pointed out that the temperature of 40.7 degrees in Armilla could be the warmest June temperature recorded in the Iberian Peninsula since reliable records began, at least since 1961.
