The City Council and Aguasvira have launched a preventive operation ensuring the cleaning of one hundred percent of the municipality's drains. The action particularly focuses on areas that have experienced water accumulation problems in previous rainfall events.
These tasks are part of the regular campaigns that Aguasvira carries out in all the municipalities it serves. The company manages approximately 25,000 drains, which for the second consecutive year are undergoing comprehensive preventive cleaning.
Gabriel Orantes, head of Sanitation and Sewerage at Aguasvira, explained that the planning is divided into two annual campaigns: one in spring and another in autumn, preceding periods of heavier rainfall. He highlighted the shift from a corrective system to a preventive one, now cleaning all public drains.
In Albolote, the second phase of the work concentrates on urban developments and critical points. The Councilor for the Environment, Rosario Ramírez, detailed that actions will be taken in areas pending completion such as El Chaparral, Torreón, Cubillas, Buena Vista, and Pretel, in addition to other areas of the municipality.
The cleaning of drains is especially crucial in autumn, as falling leaves can cause blockages, and given the possibility of torrential rains that could lead to rapid water accumulation in streets and urbanized areas.
The mayor of Albolote, Salustiano Ureña, emphasized the preventive nature of these actions, noting that maintenance work continues throughout the year in the most problematic spots. To minimize traffic disruptions, some interventions in high-traffic areas are carried out at night.
Ureña recalled that this is the second consecutive year of achieving one hundred percent preventive cleaning, a measure he considers vital given the changes in rainfall patterns. 'This doesn't mean that in a severe situation it won't get complicated, but it allows us to be more at ease,' the mayor concluded.
