The incident occurred at the intersection of Andrés Segovia and Avenida de América, an area where the metro line runs, close to the Andrés Segovia stop. The crash, which saw one vehicle partially obstructing the tracks, caused significant disruptions to the subway's operations.
According to information from the 112 Emergency System of the Junta de Andalucía, the event began when a van reportedly ran a red light towards Plaza de Fontiveros and was struck by a car ascending Avenida de América. The van overturned onto the tracks, blocking metro traffic.
“"The van ran a red light towards Plaza de Fontiveros and the car going up Avenida de América impacted the van. The van overturned onto the metro tracks, preventing normal circulation in the area."
As a result of the accident, two individuals, aged 23 and 24, were transported to Hospital Clínico San Cecilio. Additionally, the Local Police reported that the car driver, despite not being primarily responsible for the collision, registered an alcohol level above the administrative limit, leading to legal proceedings and the impoundment of their vehicle.
Metro de Granada implemented partial services between the Armilla and Andrés Segovia stops, and between Albolote and Alcázar Genil. After the van was removed and the track condition verified, full service was restored at 7:43 AM, normalizing operations between Armilla and Albolote.
