The president of the Provincial Council of Córdoba, Salvador Fuentes, accompanied by the mayor of Palma del Río, Matilde Esteo, visited the hamlet of El Calonge to oversee the completed works. These actions, funded with 175,925.61 euros, are part of the Hamlet Plan 2024-2027 and aim to ensure quality services and infrastructure in scattered population centers.
Fuentes emphasized the importance of equal opportunities, stating that El Calonge must be "highly connected physically and digitally," considering it "just another neighborhood of Palma."
The public lighting renovation, with a budget of 120,000 euros, involved replacing luminaires on various roads and streets in the hamlet, including Plaza de San Miguel and Parque Calonge. The new light points use LED technology, which will lead to a significant reduction in electricity consumption and associated costs.
Furthermore, the works on the access road to El Calonge Bajo, with an investment of 45,925.61 euros, have improved road safety on the Camino del Calonge Bajo, a 1,270-meter long route connecting the hamlet to the Cortijo Calonge Bajo. These actions focused on the rural section, affected by heavy vehicle traffic and heavy rains, and included clearing the stream bed of the Madre Fuentes.
The president of the Provincial Council concluded that these actions are "necessary tools to make our territory more competitive" and contribute to curbing depopulation by ensuring modern infrastructure in the hamlets.
Mayor Matilde Esteo expressed gratitude for the support from the Provincial Council, which has enabled the "unblocking" of projects highly requested by the residents of El Calonge.
