The president of the Provincial Council of Córdoba, Salvador Fuentes, accompanied by the mayor of Palma del Río, Matilde Esteo, visited the hamlet to see the improvements made. These works, part of the Villages Plan 2024-2027, aim to provide quality services and infrastructure and promote equal opportunities for residents of scattered settlements.
The public lighting renovation, with a budget of 120,000 euros, included the replacement of luminaires on various streets and squares in the hamlet, such as the North, East, West, and South rings, as well as Mayor, Segunda, Escuelas streets, San Miguel square, and Calonge park. The new light points use LED technology (31 to 60 watts), significantly reducing electricity consumption and associated costs, in compliance with energy efficiency regulations.
Additionally, works were carried out on the access to El Calonge Bajo, costing 45,925.61 euros. These improvements enhance road safety on the Camino del Calonge Bajo, a 1,270-meter route providing access to agricultural farms. The rural section of this road, affected by heavy vehicle traffic and intense winter rains, has undergone improvements.
Salvador Fuentes emphasized that these actions are crucial for ensuring modern infrastructure in villages, helping to combat depopulation and make the territory more competitive. Mayor Matilde Esteo thanked the Provincial Council for its support in unblocking important projects for the hamlet.
