Water pipe renovation works in a rural area of Andalusia.
The Córdoba Provincial Council has initiated the first phase of a project to renovate 5,100 meters of water pipes in the villages of Fuente Obejuna, with an investment of 756,937 euros, to improve supply and reduce breakdowns.
The president of the Córdoba Provincial Council, Salvador Fuentes, visited Fuente Obejuna to oversee the progress of the first phase of the works, which began on March 30. This project's main objective is to optimize the water supply conduction in the rural areas north of the municipality.
The intervention focuses on the section connecting the municipal reservoir of the village of Los Pánchez with the 1,000 square meter regulating reservoir of Ojuelos Bajos. This action is crucial to resolve recurring problems caused by network breakages, especially near the Alcornocal crossroads, which have generated numerous incidents in the area.
The current network, over 35 years old, is mainly composed of fiber cement with diameters between 200 and 100 millimeters, leading to constant breakdowns and high repair costs. The renovation of this system is, therefore, an urgent necessity to guarantee the sustainability and quality of the water reaching homes.
In this first stage, 5,100 linear meters of ductile iron pipe will be installed. A second phase is planned to add another 2.5 kilometers of pipeline, raising the total investment to 1.5 million euros. The mayor of Fuente Obejuna, Silvia Mellado, expressed her gratitude for this initiative, emphasizing that it will repair continuous breakdowns and offer a lasting solution to residents.
