Since early this morning, rail traffic has been affected. According to the Administrator of Railway Infrastructure (Adif), the incident occurred when a Medium Distance train struck a fallen catenary. Consequently, the line remains interrupted between the stations of Álora and Cártama.
The train involved in the incident is unit 13921, traveling from María Zambrano station in Málaga towards Sevilla Santa Justa. The diesel-powered multiple unit is stopped at the entrance to the town of Álora, near Pizarra. Adif indicated that the catenary detachment was due to an issue related to scheduled works in the area.
Due to this infrastructure failure, Renfe has had to suspend all services on the C-2 line. The trains scheduled for 8:00 AM and 8:53 AM could not operate. The company later specified that the line was fully interrupted.
This line had recently experienced service cuts. At the end of May, services were halted for renovation and improvement works on the switches at Pizarra and Aljaima (in Cártama) stations. The works, which began on Monday, May 25th, were expected to last at least three weeks, during which Renfe established an alternative transport plan. The project included replacing existing switches with higher-performance ones and renewing tracks, along with modifications to the overhead contact line and safety installations.
