These actions, carried out by the Operational Services area led by councilor Rodrigo Jiménez, focus on the most sensitive points of the drainage network and channels running through urban areas, aiming to reduce the risks of flooding and other damage from intense rains.
Recent weeks have seen the cleaning of gutters, roofs, and other rainwater evacuation elements in schools and municipal buildings. Additionally, extensive cleaning and clearing of urban streams, ditches, and sand traps have been conducted. Notable work includes cleaning sand traps and dikes along the Arroyo del Cura near Pinos de Alhaurín, the Arroyo del Pinar, and the Arroyo Blanquillo, as well as clearing vegetation in the Arroyo de la Zorrera and Arroyo del Valle.
Work continues on the Arroyo del Valle near San Joaquín, with planned cleaning of the Arroyo Menaya and Zambrana in industrial park sections. The council's responsibilities are limited to urban channels.
The council emphasizes the importance of anticipating adverse weather events, particularly with increasingly intense rainfall episodes, to minimize the impact of torrential rains and protect public infrastructure and private properties.
Furthermore, Civil Protection in Alhaurín de la Torre has issued a preventive alert for abundant rainfall from Sunday, October 18th, onwards. The municipal body will monitor the weather daily and inform the public through official channels.
Residents are advised to avoid flooded areas, stay clear of streams and rivers, limit non-essential travel during adverse weather, and check their home's drainage systems. Parking vehicles near channels or flood-prone areas should also be avoided. Information should only be sought from official channels and emergency services (112). The council calls for citizen collaboration, stressing that prevention is a shared responsibility.
