The mayor of Lucena, Aurelio Fernández, confirmed this Wednesday that the process to request this meeting began on Monday, following the brawl that occurred in the early hours of Sunday. The Lucena mayor indicated that, according to information available to the City Council, there is no connection between last week's incidents, as they occurred in different locations and involved different people.
Fernández stated that the investigations fall under the National Police and that the City Council does not yet have all the information, although he thanked the efforts of the Local Police, National Police, and Civil Guard “for actions that have allowed progress in clarifying the events and making arrests”.
The mayor emphasized the need to address public concern and continue working on preventing new incidents, primarily through constant contact and coordination between police officials. He recalled that citizen security is the responsibility of the State Security Forces and Corps, coordinated by the Government Sub-delegation in Córdoba.
The City Council will continue to collaborate within its municipal competencies, reinforcing the Local Police with new resources, including the security camera system, the installation of which has already been awarded. Fernández reiterated the request to increase the resources and personnel of the National Police Station of Lucena-Cabra, a demand also raised by police unions.
“From the local government, we will continue working to ensure the greatest possible security for our residents,” affirmed the mayor, who reaffirmed the municipal commitment to prevention, police coordination, and coexistence on the streets of Lucena.
