The Tourism Delegation of the City Council of Lucena has organized a new edition of the Zoco de Boabdil, an event scheduled from October 8 to 12, with the Castillo del Moral and its surroundings as the central focus. The program commemorates the figure of Boabdil and one of the key episodes in the history of Lucena: his capture in 1483 after the Battle of Arroyo de Martín González and his subsequent transfer to the fortress.
The Councilor for Tourism, Francisco Barbancho, emphasized the duty to "preserve, disseminate, and conserve our history and heritage." The program kicks off on Thursday, October 8, with El alma de Boabdil, an escape room designed for participants to find seven keys plus one hidden within the fortress to free Boabdil. There will be sessions at 5:00 PM and 6:30 PM, requiring prior registration.
From October 8 to Monday, October 12, the Gran Mercado Medieval y Cetrería (Great Medieval Market and Falconry) will take place. This market, now in its fourth edition, will span the area around the Castillo del Moral, the Paseo del Coso, the Plaza de San Miguel, and the Plaza de Archidona. It will feature craft and gastronomy stalls, music, street performances, and family activities. Falconry demonstrations are scheduled for Saturday, October 10, at 1:00 PM, and Sunday, October 11, at 8:00 PM, with additional times to be announced during the market.
On Friday, October 9, at 8:30 PM, the Patio de Armas of the Castillo del Moral will host the screening of the film La corona partida, directed by Jordi Frades. The movie addresses the events following the death of Isabel la Católica and the situation of Juana de Castilla and Felipe el Hermoso. Admission is free until full capacity.
For families, on Saturday, October 10, at 10:30 AM, the Ruta Marco Topo en familia (Marco Topo Family Route) has been organized, an interactive city game with a guide and free prior registration. On Sunday, October 11, at 9:00 AM, the Sendero del Martín González (Martín González Trail) will take place, a roughly 12-kilometer route through the area where the historical battle occurred, starting from the Plaza de la Barrera.
Sunday afternoon will be dedicated to theater. At 8:00 PM, the Patio de Armas of the Castillo del Moral will host Boabdil, cautivo entre dos mundos (Boabdil, captive between two worlds), a theatrical performance recreating the historical episode of the Nasrid king's captivity and his relationship with Lucena. Admission is free until full capacity. The play features participation from the Escuela de Teatro de Ubederriba (Ubederriba Theater School).
The program will conclude on Monday, October 12, with a free visit to the Castillo del Moral, offering audio guides in Spanish, English, French, and German, available from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
