The Lucena Local Police has unveiled its new vehicle fleet in Plaza Nueva, consisting of five non-plug-in hybrid patrol cars. These new vehicles replace the previous four, increasing the force's mobile resources by one unit. The event was attended by the mayor, Aurelio Fernández; the Councilor for Citizen Security, Ángel Novillo; and the chief inspector, José Pino, who highlighted the modernization of the service.
The renewal was carried out through a 48-month rental contract, with an investment of 277,440 euros (plus VAT). This contract includes comprehensive maintenance, full-risk insurance without excess, and replacement of parts due to wear and tear. Three of the vehicles are equipped for transporting detainees, two will be used for personnel transport, and one will be assigned to the Traffic Unit, featuring a programmable light panel to inform about incidents and checks.
The new patrol cars incorporate equipment designed to improve police response and citizen assistance. Among their features are semi-automatic defibrillators, first-aid kits, digital breathalyzers, metal detectors, fire extinguishers, signaling devices, and ruggedized tablets for carrying out tasks directly from the vehicle. Additionally, they retain the armor-plating system and feature a new Battenburg livery, recommended by the European Union to enhance their visibility.
During the presentation, it was recalled that this acquisition is part of a continuous improvement process for the Local Police. This plan includes updating officers' equipment, the future installation of traffic regulation and control cameras, the replacement of standard-issue weaponry, and the acquisition of new protective gear, all aimed at further strengthening available resources.
Currently, the Local Police force has 73 officers. This year, five new officers will join: one through mobility and four in training who will take up their posts by the end of the year. The commitment is to continue expanding the material and human resources of the Local Police to enhance the security and quality of service provided to the citizens of Lucena.
