Several sites within the municipal area have been designated for these experiences. Highlights include the Sierra de Aras, noted for its elevation and panoramic views over the Subbética region; Jauja, with its open spaces near the Genil river; and Navas del Selpillar, a tranquil area with minimal light pollution. These locations encourage nighttime sky observation in harmony with nature.
Wednesday, August 12th, will be the main day to witness the partial solar eclipse. The phenomenon will begin around 7:30 PM, with maximum solar coverage occurring approximately at 8:36 PM, when the Moon will obscure over 96% of the solar disk. As the Sun will be low on the horizon (about seven degrees altitude), seeking locations with a clear western horizon is recommended for optimal viewing. The eclipse will conclude shortly after sunset, potentially causing significant ambient darkening and a temperature drop.
Given the expected influx of people to viewpoints and open spaces, the Lucena Local Police emphasizes the importance of safety. It is crucial not to look directly at the Sun without adequate protection, using only certified solar viewing glasses (ISO 12312-2).
