The IES Marqués de Comares in Lucena hosted the official inauguration of the 2026/2027 school year. The event took on special significance as it coincided with the commemoration of the educational institution's 75th anniversary. The day brought together the educational community, the center's director, José Fernando Lavela, and members of the Municipal Corporation, including the mayor of Lucena, Aurelio Fenrández, and the Councilor for Education, Miriam Ortiz.
During the ceremony, tribute was paid to the teaching staff who retired during the 2025/2026 academic year. Management teams from the eleven educational centers with retired professionals presented a gift in recognition of their dedication and careers in Lucena's education sector.
Students were also highlighted, with public recognition given to those who demonstrated academic excellence in the previous year, as proposed by their respective schools. Directors, accompanied by the authorities present, presented the awards to the outstanding students.
The ceremony included the presentation of awards for the cover design contest of the Intercentros 2026/2027 school diary, with Sergio López Gálvez and Laura Cañete Cuenca receiving the prizes. The Municipal School of Music and Dance of Lucena provided musical accompaniment for part of the event, which underscored the daily work carried out in the city's educational centers.
This inauguration officially marks the start of the new school year in Lucena, celebrating the careers of educators and the efforts of students, in a significant year for the IES Marqués de Comares as it marks 75 years of educating generations.
