Construction on the Iznájar-Casilla del Monte supply pipeline, specifically the Iznájar-Los Prietos section, is proceeding well. This project, part of the 2024-2027 Provincial Hydraulic Infrastructure Plan with a budget of 9.8 million euros, is currently in the route surveying phase, defining and marking the occupation area on the ground using GPS and drones.
In parallel, tasks such as pruning, felling, cutting, and uprooting olive trees along the route are being carried out, along with necessary clearing. Over 3,500 meters have already been cleared and de-stumped, preparatory steps before the pipe installation, which is scheduled to begin the week of June 8th.
Salvador Fuentes, president of the Diputación de Córdoba, highlighted that alongside fieldwork, technical solutions are being defined to address the actual ground conditions. The primary objective of this intervention is to renovate the first section of the main high-level drinking water supply artery, serving over 280,000 inhabitants across the Subbética, Campiña, and western Valle del Guadalquivir regions.
Fuentes emphasized that this work will address recurring incidents that caused the loss of thousands of cubic meters of water. With an approximate execution period of 18 months, the project is expected to double the water flow and renew 24 kilometers of pipelines.
From a technical standpoint, the intervention will increase the transport capacity from the current 700 l/s to 1,200 l/s, reaching the maximum treatment capacity of the Iznájar Water Treatment Plant (ETAP). This will enable the system to meet current flow demands, ensure water savings by minimizing network losses, and reduce operational costs.
