The council has published the regulations for granting licenses for food stalls in this area, which will take place between September 5th and 8th, operating from 2:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Mayor Fernando Priego and the delegate for Fairs and Festivities, Rosi Lama, explained that the decision stems from organizational, functional, and coexistence reasons, following an analysis of Calle Cervantes, the previous location.
Priego stated that the new location in Plaza de España will cause less disruption to traffic, as the square will be closed during the festivities, and will have less impact on community garages. The move also addresses the issue of a reduced number of participating hospitality establishments on Calle Cervantes, which had dwindled to just two, insufficient for the demand.
The mayor asserted that Plaza de España offers an ideal structure and infrastructure for the event, providing more space, accessibility, and capacity. This decision was previously communicated and agreed upon with municipal spokespersons, the Hospitality Association, and local businesses, who acknowledged the improved conditions of the new site.
The more inclusive nature of the new fair was also highlighted, allowing enjoyment for families with young children, users with strollers, and the elderly, by ensuring spaces for chairs, tables, and seating areas. The City Council will manage the ambiance and adaptation of the surroundings, including decorations, awnings in Calle Redondo Marqués, and enhanced shaded areas in the Plaza del Triunfo de la Inmaculada, where the main stage will be located.
Hospitality businesses in Plaza de España have welcomed the change, with some participating with stalls while others will keep their establishments open, contributing to the city center's gastronomic and leisure offerings.
Rosi Lama specified that the stalls will not be subject to public space occupation fees, must be located along the facade of the respective establishment, and will have maximum dimensions of 8 meters frontage by 2 meters depth, without anchors to preserve the square's pavement. Interested establishments can submit their applications through the Electronic Headquarters and the municipal website.
Requirements include opening restrooms to the public, installing bins and containers for cleanliness, and selling only food prepared within the establishment. The public is expected to embrace the change and enjoy the fair.
