A total of 532 short films will compete in the official section of the XXXI National Audiovisual Creation Contest in Cabra, organized by the Egabrense Council with support from the Provincial Council of Córdoba and the Regional Government of Andalusia. The event will take place from September 26 to October 4.
Culture delegate M. Sierra Sabariego, alongside festival director Miguel Ángel Muñoz and poster artist Paco Díaz, announced the new edition. The main novelty is the date shift to late September and early October, aimed at avoiding clashes with other national festivals and fostering greater participation from Cabra's associative, educational, and cultural fabric.
Sabariego emphasized the city's collective involvement in the festival, which boasts over three decades of history, and thanked the organizing team, including volunteers and collaborators. She highlighted that the contest remains a qualifier for the Goya Awards and the Carmen Awards for Andalusian Cinema, positioning Cabra as a significant hub in the national film scene.
Miguel Ángel Muñoz reported that 532 short films were received: 331 in the professional category, 91 amateur, 38 under five minutes, 38 animation, 46 for the RTVA Award, and nine from the province of Córdoba. The pre-selection team is currently reviewing submissions to choose approximately 40 to 50 films for the official section.
A call for volunteers, particularly targeting young individuals interested in event organization, will soon be launched via social media and the festival's website.
This year's poster was created by Paco Díaz, a long-time collaborator of the festival. His design portrays the festival as a "living entity," composed of elements symbolizing administration, companies, volunteers, and other stakeholders. It incorporates cinematic language, such as cameras and film references, "grounded by deep roots" alluding to the city and the event's history, presented in a colorful and festive composition.
