The Cabra City Council has opened the registration period for the traditional Float Contest, one of the most unique events of the patron saint festivities in honor of María Santísima de la Sierra 2026. The call, published in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP), states that applications can be submitted until August 24, 2026, at 2:15 PM. No float will be allowed to participate in the parades on September 4th and 5th without proper registration within the established period.
Applications can be submitted through the City Council's electronic headquarters or, for individuals, at the General Registry (Plaza de España, 14). Forms will be available at the Department of Fairs and Festivities or can be requested via email at fiestas@cabra.es.
The competition includes two categories: Adults (15 years and older) and Children's (up to 14 years, represented by an adult). Floats can feature patio designs or specific themes, always maintaining the traditional Egabrense style and decoration with paper flowers.
To register, participants must provide the official form, bank details for the deposit, the representative's ID or CIF, a color sketch with front and side views, trailer dimensions, number of occupants, and valid documentation, insurance, and ITV for both the vehicle and trailer. Deposits are 100 euros for children's floats and 300 euros for adults'.
The contest will award a total of 3,275 euros in prizes. The Adult category will have five prizes (900, 600, 400, 250, and 100 euros), while the Children's category will offer three prizes (350, 250, and 125 euros). Two special mentions of 150 euros each will also be awarded: one for the best ambiance with popular songs and another for the best traditional float.
Floats will participate in the parades on September 4th and 5th, gathering from 8:30 PM in Avenida de Andalucía and Calle Santa Teresa de Jornet. The traditional Battle of Flowers will take place on the 5th at 9:00 PM. The jury's decision and award ceremony will be held that same night.
The rules also establish safety and organization measures, including mandatory valid insurance and ITV, a multipurpose dry powder extinguisher, a maximum height of 4.25 meters, and traditional attire for participants. Sound systems, pyrotechnics, and advertising are prohibited.
The Department of Fairs and Festivities encourages groups, associations, and entities to participate in this event to keep alive a tradition that fills the streets of Cabra with color and festive spirit each September.
