The initiative gathered students from first to sixth grade of Primary from five educational centers in the city, including CEIPs ‘Andrés de Cervantes’, ‘Juan Valera’, ‘Carmen de Burgos’, ‘Nuestra Señora de la Sierra’, and the ‘San José’ school of the Escolapias-Montal Foundation. The Parque Alcántara-Romero, La Cruz street, and Plaza de España hosted rotating stations with popular, community, and sports games.
Driven by the Sports and Youth departments of the Provincial Council of Córdoba, and the ‘Be Active’ program from Europe Direct, the activity had the collaboration of the municipal departments of Education, Youth, Sports, and Security of the Cabra City Council.
“"Streets, besides serving for daily commutes, are spaces for meeting and coexistence. Reclaiming and taking to the streets for play, for coexistence, and for relating to each other is fundamental."
During the inauguration, the municipal delegate for Sports and Education, Francisco Casas, thanked the Provincial Council for choosing Cabra for this activity, which coincided with the European Week of Sport. Casas highlighted the importance of streets as spaces for meeting and coexistence, advocating for play and social interaction in them.
Antonio Martín, delegate for Sports of the Provincial Council, emphasized that 'the street has always been the stage for play and childhood,' valuing the collaboration between administrations, schools, and the IES ‘López Neyra’. He noted that this day offers children an opportunity for physical activity and interaction.
Olivia Benítez, a professor at the IES ‘López Neyra’ in Córdoba, explained that the experience allows students from vocational training cycles in Physical and Sports Activities to practice their skills, thanking the Provincial Council for its support of Dual Vocational Training internships. The students and staff from this center were responsible for facilitating the activities.
Martín also thanked the Cabra City Council for hosting ‘Callejugando’, an initiative that the Provincial Council has extended to other municipalities in the province during its term.
