The reopening was announced during a visit to the area by the territorial delegate for Public Works of the Junta de Andalucía, Carmen Granados, who was accompanied by the mayors of Priego, Juan Ramón Valdivia, and Algarinejo, Jorge Sánchez.
Carmen Granados emphasized that the reopening fulfills the commitment to restore passage during September, especially with the agricultural season approaching. Currently, traffic is managed with alternating passage and traffic lights at the narrowest points while works continue. The delegate warned that occasional closures might occur if safety requires it, and these would be communicated in advance.
The emergency-declared works have an estimated completion period of 11 months. Initially, work focused on four landslides, but during the project, six affected points were identified. Currently, two of these are being worked on simultaneously to expedite the process.
The mayor of Priego, Juan Ramón Valdivia, highlighted the road's importance for local businesses, producers, and farmers, noting that the reopening will reduce distances and transport costs. He also acknowledged the Junta de Andalucía's commitment.
For his part, the mayor of Algarinejo, Jorge Sánchez, stressed the negative impact the closure had on residents, cooperatives, and companies. He pointed out that the provisional passage will facilitate heavy vehicle transit and help recover some business activity and reduce travel costs.
Once the main works are finished, the Junta plans to complement them with road surface repair, visibility improvements through vegetation management, and ditch work where needed.
