The City Council's commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency is evident with the addition of new solar panels on the Municipal Center for Sport and Health (CMDS), the Edificio Joven, the sports hall, and the El Coto sports facilities. The mayor, Marino Aguilera, and the Councilor for Works and Services, Mercedes Flores, visited two of the roofs where the panels are already operational.
The project, funded by own resources (€74,444.13) and the Provincial Council of Jaén (€10,658.21), aims to reduce energy consumption, decrease CO₂ emissions, and optimize public resource management.
At the CMDS, initial operational data confirm significant performance. Technical estimates project annual savings close to €42,835 (including taxes), which would allow the investment to be recouped in approximately two years. Since its full operation began in March, the CMDS installation has already generated 74,450 kWh, resulting in accumulated savings of €14,522.
Mayor Marino Aguilera highlighted that "this action demonstrates that investments in sustainability have a direct impact on both environmental protection and the municipal economy. Committing to renewable energy means reducing costs and allocating those resources to continue improving citizen services".
Mercedes Flores, for her part, emphasized that "the incorporation of self-consumption facilities in municipal buildings, such as these solar panels, is part of a plan to make municipal buildings more efficient, while reducing and offsetting energy consumption with other public facilities".
The company Futurgy, awarded the contract, was responsible for the installation on the four roofs. The final investment was €85,102.34, representing a saving of €37,781.81 (almost 31%) compared to the initial budget of €122,884.15.
The power of each installation varies: 121.44 kWh at the CMDS; 124.20 kWh at the municipal sports hall; 32.66 kWh at the Edificio Joven; and 28.52 kWh at the El Coto sports facilities.
